Others appear as basic text messages, or they may not send at all. Your phone is not necessarily broken. The difference often comes down to the messaging system being used.

MMS still relies on carrier messaging infrastructure. It may also require mobile data settings to be active, but it is not the same as an internet messaging service such as RCS or WhatsApp.

RCS can work while you are traveling internationally, but it is not guaranteed simply because your phone has internet access.
